This workshop was delivered with children during Harmony Week.
The theme I prepared was simple: a rabbit and bamboo.
However, in the actual session, the children went beyond that.
They drew animals and flowers, wrote their friends’ names,
and even asked to have their names written in Japanese.
Their expressions naturally expanded.
Even when children are told they can draw freely,
having a small amount of guidance or a theme
can help them feel more at ease than starting from nothing.
It is within a framework that freedom can emerge.
Using the very simple materials of ink and paper,
each child’s unique expression began to take shape.
The preparation and facilitation were not easy,
but the richness of the experience remains strong.
ハーモニーウィークで、子どもたちに墨絵のワークショップを行いました。
今回用意したのは、うさぎと竹というシンプルな題材でした。
けれど実際の場では、それにとどまらず、
動物や花を描いたり、友達の名前を書いてあげたり、
日本語で名前を書いてほしいとリクエストがあったりと、
表現は自然に広がっていきました。
子どもたちは「自由に描いていい」と言われても、
完全に何もない状態よりも、
少しのガイドやテーマがあった方が安心して動けることがあります。
枠があるからこそ、自由になれる。
墨と紙というとてもシンプルな素材の中で、
それぞれの表現が立ち上がっていく時間になりました。
準備や運営は決して軽くはありませんでしたが、
その分、満足感はありました。
